What would you say is the identity of this team?
Christian Wolanin: “We’re deep. We have four lines and have a solid core of defense along with great goaltending that can hopefully contribute to secondary scoring and make it tough for teams to play against us.”
What makes this year’s team unique compared to the previous teams you’ve been on?
CW: “It’s kind of the same because the tradition and the culture are always there. Last year and the year before, we had big first-round names. This year, we know we have to work for it a little bit more and have four lines that contribute every night to have success.”
Your dad played 13 years in the NHL. Is your game molded after his at all?
CW: “Not at all actually. He was very defensive, and he was 6-4, 230 pounds when he played. We’re pretty opposite in that sense. But he still taught me a lot, even though he wasn’t very offensive. He still knows the game better than anyone I know. He’s a huge reason why I’m here and why I’ve had success in my hockey career so far.”
How much advice does he give you?
CW: “He’s great. If I want to hear it, I’ll ask him. If he knows I’m down in the dumps, he’ll lay off. But it’s up to me really if I want to hear about something. But sometimes if I’m real, real bad, he’ll let me know.”
